During examinations, NZQA will lock students out if they lose focus of the exam portal. If notifications are received, this can cause a lock out. This article outlines the steps to check current notification settings and adjust if needed for the duration of the exam.

Notification Settings on Windows PC

  1. Right click on the speech box icon on the bottom right of the taskbar.

  2. Hover over Focus assist and then select Alarms only.

Notification Settings on Apple Mac

If your version of MAC OS doesn't have the Notification Center, instead press and hold the Option key while you click the Notification Center icon in the menu bar. The icon will dim to show do not disturb mode is enabled.

  1. Click the Notification Center icon in the top right of the screen. Click the Do Not Disturb button.

  2. The button will be filled blue, showing Do Not Disturb is active.

Notification Settings on Chromebooks

  1. Click on the clock area on the bottom right of the system tray then click on the Notifications icon to disable notifications.
  2. Ensure Do not disturbed is displayed below this icon.
